Back in the news recently is the island nation of Palau thanks to Australia reactivating direct flights to the capital Koror (ROR) from Brisbane (BNE).
I first travelled there in 2012 aboard the very last Continental flight from Cairns (CNS) via Guam. (GUM). Air Niugini flew direct via Port Moresby (POM) for a bit before Air Nauru took over the route. At time of writing it seems they will lose it in favour of Qantas or Jetstar.
Palau is known for it's excellent scuba diving and marine conservation, as well as the UNESCO listed Rock Islands. The island state of Peleliu was the scene of bloody battles during WWII.
