Ohrid Macedonia UNESCO

Ohrid - Macedonia

This fabulous card received from my colleague Angela while on assignment in Macedonia. Another country I have only visited vicariously via my well-travelled friends.

The Lake Ohrid region, a mixed World Heritage property covering c. 94,729 ha, was first inscribed for its nature conservation values in 1979 and for its cultural heritage values a year later.

Junk shop find: vintage Aussie postcards

Unearthed during a rummage in a Hahndorf old wares shop. These old cards fascinate me. What postcard treasures have you found in old "junk shops"?

Found postcard: MV Murray Explorer

Renmark 18 Feb 1981. This is a wonderful trip despite the extremely hot weather. It was dry heat at last and I had a marvellous time in the water yesterday. We stopped at a very pretty spot, Green lawn Red Cliffs and the white ship. At least 20 people and the crew were swimming. Today we awoke to a cool change and even a little bit of rain we have met some very nice people. lots from interstate I am trying not to eat too much but the food is pretty good and it's difficult. Just came through lock 6 between Renmark and Mildura downstream see you soon, Louise

Portugal

Portugal, on the Iberian Peninsula, beckons with its rich history, picturesque landscapes, and vibrant culture. From the historic charm of Lisbon to the scenic beauty of the Douro Valley, Portugal offers diverse experiences. Famed for its explorers, port wine, and captivating coastlines, it is a tapestry of tradition and modernity.

Lisbon. April 25th Bridge.

Bridges are a very popular subject for all postcard fans. This beauty from Patricia in Lisbon. It's the April 25th Bridge over the River Tagus. It opened in 1966 after almost four years of construction.

Vintage Airline Issue

One of my pet subjects for postcards is vintage and contemporary airline issue postcards. Increasingly rare these days as airlines cut back on everything not core to flying planes and maximising revenue. Enjoy these anachronistic artforms. I will add to this post occasionally, so call back to see what else I've found. G-ANBB B.175 Britannia BOAC c/n 12903
